A Visit to London – Introducing our Windowpane Check Shirts

A Visit to London

We’ve all been there, to London that is.

Some of us have been there as students, thrilled to be in a civilized country where the drinking age is 18 and mystified by those heady elixirs called “ales” and “stouts.” Some of us have been there on business, reveling in the realization that hitting it big-time doesn’t mean expense accounting that steak dinner at Friday’s. And still some of us have been there without ever setting foot there by watching TV specials or looking at books. We’ve wondered what it must be like to live in a real city where important things have been done by important people found on the pages of Britannica, not Wikipedia.

At Hugh & Crye we have an interesting relationship with the city. As a brand, we trace some of our heritage to the clothes of London’s Savile Row and Jermyn Street: our tailored fit, our spread collars and our references to common law. But yet our attachment to the city has been that which I’ve already mentioned, as students and business people and tourists. We’re all Americans here (except Phil, who won’t admit that he’s German). No matter how much we love the city, we will never be Londoners, and frankly, I’m not sure that we would want to be.

Introducing our Windowpane Check Shirts

With our new line of windowpane shirts, we wanted to represent this duality. They are made in a very fine 120s dobby fabric, in a pronounced but traditional windowpane pattern, with navy, lavender and red colorways. We cut them with the same tailored fit that you have come to expect from us. They also have our tall collar and convertible cuffs. We’ve named them after three places in London, unavoidable to the student or tourist: Trafalgar, Kensington, and Leicester. Three places that we’ve experienced as students, business people and as tourists.

And this is still Hugh & Crye; you don’t need to have your nose stuck in the air to buy our shirts and they cost dollars, not pounds.

Trafalgar, Kensington and Leicester are now available in all sizes, at $105.
