Caring for your Hugh & Crye shirt
To ensure you get the best from your Hugh & Crye shirt, we’ve put together some care instructions – starting with fit, then cleaning and ironing, finally some tips.
FIT
First, ensure that the fit of the shirt is to your liking. Ultimately this is your decision alone, but you might find our brief guide helpful. If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact us - we’re happy to help. (Cont’d)
CLEANING
If the shirt is a perfect fit, clean it by taking it to a trusted cleaners to be professionally washed or dry cleaned. Or, wash at home in cold water and hang dry until slightly damp. We repeat, hang dry. Our fabrics are all 100% cotton, and though they have been treated at the mill for minimal shrinkage, all cotton garments shrink a bit over time.
If the shirt is a bit big, wash in warm water and tumble dry on low heat. This should result in a slight shrinkage in the sleeves and body of the shirt.
IRONING
A wrinkled shirt looks sloppy and in some cases, dirty. Even if you’re dropping off your shirt at the cleaners, touch up the shirt before wearing, as there are bound to be a few wrinkles here and there. If you’re washing at home, iron the shirt when it is still a little damp. Most importantly, take good care to iron and shape the collar, from the backside. The collar is interlined in a way to ensure it keeps its shape. All of our fabrics are washed in a way to assist in ‘easy care’ and limited ironing.
TIPS
- A few of our spread collars have collar stays – if your shirt will be professionally cleaned, remember to take your collar stays out!
- Some people have an unhealthy relationship with starch. It’s ok, it’s plagued us as well.
- The single most important component of a dress shirt is the collar. Take good care of it, and it will love you back.
