Hugh & Crye - We make shirts that fit

Despite our best efforts…

From the very beginning we wanted to keep production in the US.  Our target customer is American.  And though we come from various ethnic backgrounds, we’re American.  So we embarked on a nation-wide search for manufacturers who could bring the best 1) attention to detail 2) design-driven production, and 3) overall quality.  We found a couple very capable companies, but were disappointed with the (obvious) reality of manufacturing in the US:  it’s way too expensive.

Hugh & Crye is not traditional retail. One very recognizable outcome of that is our pricing – no outrageous retail markups. Had we decided to manufacturer in the US with the design and fabric quality of our launch product, the shirts would have been priced much higher.

And so, despite six months of a rigorous domestic search, we had to set our efforts to offshore production. Given the price point is nearly as important a factor for our customer as fit and construction, we were in the end reassured we made the right decision with manufacturing in India.
