Dispatches from Cambridge, and beyond

What’s up folks? My name is Patrick, and I’m originally from the D.C. area and currently pursuing a Masters here in Cambridge, MA. I hooked up with Hugh and Crye over the summer and they’re definitely some of the coolest people I’ve had the opportunity to get to know. Style is a passion of mine, and I’ll be sending dispatches every so often — let me know what you think!

Developing personal style

With all of the attention menswear is getting these days, it is incredibly easy to get lost in a bunch of trends in the process of developing your own style. Having grown up accustomed to the prep look, but also more recently admiring the relaxed Italian style while seeing the rise of working class-inspired Americana, I still struggle to pin down exactly what I want to look like. I’ve been closely following “Street Etiquette” for about two years now, and I find them to be an inspiring pair because of their ability to articulate a style that makes use of unique pieces that aren’t necessarily tied to a given “history” or “tradition” that speaks to young black men like myself within the greater context of menswear.

I want to be able to answer this question: What way of dressing would present the “me” that I know best? The constant change in our lives is always reflected through the way we dress and yet, that “evolution” is the most exciting thing about it. I don’t know what I’ll look like tomorrow, but I can’t wait to see. While I will spend the next two years of my life in Cambridge (a place I’m starting to realize doesn’t quite embody the “Ivy Style” ideal), I have a feeling that I have much to learn on this front, and hopefully this new place will allow me to continue growing, developing, and evolving, style-wise.

I hope you enjoy my dispatches. And please share your own, here, on our facebook, or twitter.
