Hugh & Crye - We make shirts that fit

What’s Your Size?

At Hugh & Crye we’ve always taken fit very seriously. We’re constantly fine-tuning our fits to make sure that they’re perfect and we’re adding sizes too. We really believe that sizing by the shape of your torso is a much smarter way to fit shirts. We work hard to make sure we have the right fit, we try to work equally as hard to ensure that people understand our approach to fit.

Take a look at some of our fit information below and click through to our expanded fit pages to find your size. Whether you’re new to Hugh & Crye and are unsure which size is right for you, or are already a customer and just need a refresher, there is some really great information to check out.

Skinny Fit

Matt in Short/Skinny

The Skinny Fit is for guys who are just plain skinny. That is, guys who have a slighter bone structure, narrower shoulders and arms, and a smaller drop from their chest size to waist size. Check out the expanded Skinny Fit page to see if this size is right for you.

Slim Fit

Hudson in Average/Lean

Our Slim Fit is for leaner guys who are in good shape, have a V-shaped torso where the chest and shoulder is larger than their waist, and they frankly don’t have a gut. Check out our expanded Slim Fit page to see if this size is right for you.

Athletic Fit

Michael in Tall/Athletic

Our Athletic Fit is for guys who have a more muscular upper-body and need more room in the shoulders, chest and arms but still need a fitted shirt that tapers to their waist. Check out our expanded Athletic Fit page to see if this size is right for you.

And if you are still unsure what your size is, then please feel free to email us at service@hughandcrye.com with your measurement or even a picture of yourself and we’ll let you know what fit we think would work best. You can of course also just give us a call at 202-250-3807.

What I Wore Today #WIWT 4/17/12

Hugh & Crye :: What I Wore Today Pranav wearing H&C Vanderbilt

Introducing “What I Wore Today”

When we launched H&C a few years back, we were hesitant to serve as style advisors. The reality is that we can’t escape it! People ask us on the daily how to wear our shirts. We hear the following all the time:

“Like the colors, but I can’t pull that off..” [some guys]

“How do I wear this?” [most guys]

“Oh man, I don’t wear pink.” [too many guys]

We wanted to have an outlet to feature different ways to wear our shirts. So today we’re going to start our new “What I Wore Today” feature.  Or, #WIWT. And if you’re saying it out loud, it’s pronounced “WEEWUTOO”. Kidding!

We’re not natural models, this much should be obvious. But every now and then we put together a pretty sweet outfit. And we have some pretty dapper customers as well. So anytime we come across someone we think is wearing Hugh & Crye right, whether it’s us or our customers, we’ll feature them. We’ll also throw in a little promotion as well for whatever shirt we’re featuring, just for you.

The Vanderbilt Shirt

Our first WIWT has Pranav wearing the Vanderbilt shirt, just outside our studio in Georgetown. The Vanderbilt is cut from a rich purple tartan fabric — a light-weight poplin actually — which can take you from layering season, to the warmer periods of Spring and Summer. It has a cutaway collar (small profile and wide spread, with collar stays), contrast gussets (that little triangle of fabric that connects the front and back panels of the shirt), and shell color buttons.

Pranav is wearing the Vanderbilt on washed pink slim chinos from Top Man, and Onitsuka Tiger by Asics Mexico 66s sneakers in white.

Let us know what you think about #WIWT and send in your pictures too.

Fashion District 2012

Fashion District was last Thursday night with Hugh & Crye well represented.

Big thanks to our highly-trained, 100% professional models Emil, Dave, Drew and Paul for showing off our shirts and thanks to everyone else who came out for team H&C. We had a pretty good time hanging out, meeting everyone, standing on tables etc. Phil also apologizes for sticker bombing everybody and everything. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and said hey, we hope you had as much fun as we did.

The Game, styled

The Game is a great option for someone looking for a more casual, yet refined look. We like a good old button-down and jeans look, but just as the Game is a crisp, fitted shirt, opt for the same idea with the jeans. Then add suede chukkas and a relaxed cotton sport coat to add a touch of grown-up elegance. Finally a classic NATO-strap watch and brown leather belt to finish off the look.

The mix:

  • High end fitted jeans
  • A pair of Chukka boots
  • Cotton sport coat
  • A NATO-strap watch
  • Brown leather belt

Brandon hates his new H&C shirt : )

The School Days Shirts

There is something distinctly interesting about High School memories. It doesn’t really matter if it was a fun time or not (although we do hope that you enjoyed yourself, we know that we did). Rather, what’s interesting is how these experiences are all shared, and lasting ones. Seriously, find that old High School buddy of yours, we’ve all got one. Grab a few beers and before long you’ll be sharing stories that you didn’t even know you remembered! Like that time you went cow-tipping. Ok, not everyone grew up in the Midwest.

We like these memories. We like them so much that we wanted to make a couple of shirts that let us go back to some of our favorite and most universal memories like going to the football game on Friday nights or trolling around the mall with our friends. We went with a youthful plaid pattern that evokes the relaxed and casual feel of these events. But we used a high-quality cotton poplin and added our signature cutaway collar, convertible cuffs and contrast gussets to give the shirt the refinement that you come to expect from us. Because as much as we might want to be kids again, we’re grown men, and grown men need grown-up shirts.

Hugh & Crye Styled: “The Commish”

Commish

The Commish is for the confident and striving gentleman who is always in control of his wardrobe.  The Commish is crafted from a versatile slate colored two-ply ribbon check fabric.

Top coats are in (and you don’t have to work at Wall Street)! Pair the Commish with a black or navy overcoat that will certainly enhance your bold look. We like it with grey trousers as well for a tone-on-tone look with interesting combination of patterns and textures. Finish off the look with black lace-ups and a dark tie (and sunglasses, of course!) Go the extra mile and wear it with cuff-links to really look like a boss.

Match it with:

  • A black or navy topcoat
  • Tapered grey trousers
  • A dark tie
  • Black lace-ups
  • Sunglasses

When shirts don’t fit

When you spend all day around shirts like we do, you start noticing things about fit. Very quickly you learn to identify when a shirt fits just right and when it doesn’t. We unfortunately come across ill-fitting shirts often enough that we even started naming some of the most notorious offenders.

We like to call this “Ugly Spotting” (speaking only about the shirts, of course). Here’s a few that we’ve seen recently.

Hugh & Crye, underdog at the Oscars.

Did you watch the Oscars this year? We sure hope you did, because sandwiched in there between Billy Crystal kissing George Clooney and Jean Dujardin doing lots of #winning, there was little old Hugh & Crye.

We were featured in American Express’ Shop Small commercial, focused on community support for small business. It’s a pretty neat ad, check it out below. Watch closely, you might miss us.

3/19/12 Update: AMEX did another cut of the commercial, with us featured a bit more prominently, check it out.

Hagen at the office

Jared from McLean sent us this great pic of him wearing Hagen as he said, “Just your typical day at the office – Rocking the Hagen…reading up on The Land Down Under.”

My kind of office, and are those cowboy boots? Well played Jared.
