The Hugh & Crye Team: Meet James

I’m from…

I was originally born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, about 20 miles north of Chicago. I moved to DC after graduating from college at Christopher Newport University, in search for a job in hospitality and a busy city lifestyle.

In DC you’ll find me at…

Being active and outside is really important to me, so it’s great that I live so close to the Mount Vernon Trail where I can go running along the Potomac. When I do go out in DC, I love the Gibson – I used to be a bartender, so I really appreciate a well-made cocktail and the art of mixology.

My favorite Hugh & Crye shirt is…

Oh thats a tough one, but if I really had to pick I would say First Secretary. Everybody needs a solid blue shirt and this one is versatile enough that you can wear it no matter what your style is. The bright blue really pops and you can easily dress it up with a suit and tie, or dressed down with jeans.

At Hugh & Crye I…

Manage a lot of things behind the scenes, including order fulfillment – if you’ve received a package from H&C, I most likely helped pack your order, wrote the little note, and had it shipped to you. Also if you come into our Georgetown shop, I’ll be the one greeting you and helping you find your fit.

This spring I’m looking forward to wearing…

I am excited for finally branching out and getting some colored chinos. I’d wear them with cuffs rolled twice, a pair of loafers, and Hugh & Crye gingham.

Something you might be surprised to learn about me is…

When you first meet me, you’ll notice right away how easy going I am, so you’d probably wouldn’t guess how competitive I can be when I’m playing sports. I’ll never give up on the chance to make a come back or win a game. It’s also a bit of a stress reliever, going out and playing hard for a few hours a week. I love playing soccer, but also golf, play volleyball, and run.

I’m most looking forward to visiting…

I’m thinking about two very different trips this year: First to Vegas – I’m planning my brother’s bachelor party there this summer. Sure it’s cliché but for a solid reason…it’s going to be an awesome time. Completely opposite I’m looking forward to a relaxing vacation to St. Vincent. I think about waking up early to go snorkeling in the clear water, eating fresh fruit from the island, and just relaxing on the beach all day with a book.
